I smelled it in the 80s, purchased it in the early 90s, Tabac Blond was a rich sophisticated yet elegant leather and not as austere as Cuir de Russie. Today, because of reformulations, Tabac Blond still has those luscious tobacco notes you described but a lot of things are missing too. It's definitely not the same Tabac Blond I met before!

I'll look into these! I'm on the search so that when I'm wearing perfume I can actually smell good instead of like a department store's perfume department anywhere in America, aka eau de Macy's, Neiman Marcus, or BigChain whatever. Boring! It's not that the big house scents aren't nice, (some of them) it's just, "Oh you went to the perfume counter, smells good," type boring. They're so corporately the same, a very safe and normal drone kind of ok, not really good. It’s like smelling capitalism and conformity as a base in all those scents. So I really appreciate your tips! Peace, Desiree

Thank you.
For natural perfumes, try Aveda. Otherwise, look for small niche perfumers, such as Roxana Illuminated Perfume on Etsy.com. Also try: http://naturalperfumers.com/

Well said, you’re a very good writer! A joy to read.

But the big question is...and oh so many people slam these things, and yes I’m going to go there...natural perfumes.... are there any good ones? And for that matter, what is natural or less toxic perfume anyway, is there really such a thing, not just mixes of essential oils? Can these natural perfumes compete in the "better living through chemistry" era? Any sources or places to look for "natural" perfume info?

Oh, my heart aches! My mother wore this for years, and I came across it in my early twenties. I'd been telling myself for the past couple of years to go buy some more and keep it stocked! :(

I have keep an old empty.bottle of this hauntingly satisfying fragrance. Could not bring myself to throw it out. Periodically I pick it up and smell the natural cork of the bottle. Talk about timelessness in a bottle. I've always said that there needs to be a word created in the English language that imparts the meaning, as close as possible, of a fragrance and/or smell that evokes memories of the past and perhaps of a past we do not even remember ourselves, but that our DNA does. This fragrance certainly did it for m, as time only tells.
I also enjoyed your writing style until I found out it was a tease, not intentionally, but I really thought you were going to say you has enough stash for the rest of us really die-hard devotees of same.
Not sure where to go from here as fine scents mark among my last earthly attachments. Back to goggle i suppose.

also brokenhearted- Candice

I love this scent so... and was heartbroken to find out it has been discontinued. The replacement sandalwood product is not adequate. I could smell the difference immediately.. Watered down, chemical and unappealing.

What is wrong with Crabtree and Evelyn, have they lost their senses? To deny us one of life's greatest small pleasures is a sin!
